A 1979 Credor, a small steel cushion and braided mesh
This watch is a Credor — the line that Seiko created in 1974, whose name comes from Crête d'Or, to crown its entire catalogue: luxury watches designed and finished above regular production, reserved for the Japanese market. Long before Western collectors discovered this name, Credor was already, in Japan, the equivalent of a jeweller's signature. This 1271-5030 reference is dated February 1979.
The silver dial is built on two levels: a central cushion-shaped section with a radial satin finish, framed by an outer ring bearing black baton hour markers and a single Roman XII — the only decorative concession. Two black baton hands cross it, beneath the CREDOR signature. Nothing else: no seconds hand, no date, no colour.
The polished cushion steel case measures 22mm with 5.2mm thickness — a jewel-like format, extended seamlessly by the original integrated braided mesh: a tight weave of interlaced links that flows over the wrist like fabric, fastened by its original Buckle. The crown, set with a dark cabochon, is later.
The movement is a Seiko quartz calibre 1271, with two hands, checked and fitted with a new battery. This watch was produced for the Japanese market: this is what collectors refer to as JDM, Japanese Domestic Market.

What is Credor?
This is the luxury line that Seiko created in 1974 — the name comes from “Crête d'Or” — to crown its entire catalogue: watches designed and finished above regular production, long reserved for the Japanese market. Credor still exists today and now houses some of the most finely executed pieces in Japanese watchmaking. Vintage models like this one, scarcely distributed outside Japan, are only just beginning to be sought after in Europe.
What does the two-tier dial mean?
The center of the dial is a cushion-shaped platform, satin-finished in a radial pattern, slightly set apart from the outer ring that carries the hour markers. This relief, echoing the shape of the case, brings the surface to life with the slightest movement of the wrist: the two levels never catch the light in quite the same way. It is a dial treatment rarely found on watches of this size.
How is the bracelet sized?
The woven mesh measures 19cm and is adjusted by removing links: a watchmaker cuts the bracelet to the exact wrist size, as is customary with fine mesh bracelets. The operation is permanent — let us know your wrist measurement when purchasing, and we will deliver the watch ready to wear, or untouched if you prefer to have it adjusted yourself.
The dial indicates 1271-0100: is that the correct reference?
Yes. At Seiko, the code printed at the bottom of the dial is that of the dial itself, not that of the watch. The watch reference is engraved on the caseback, here 1271-5030: the first group designates the calibre, the second the case. A discrepancy between the two codes is normal and is found on most Seiko watches from this period, including Credor.
Is this piece suited to a slim or larger wrist?
At 22mm wide, 24mm Lug-to-lug, and 5.2mm thick, it is a jewel-like format, ideal on slim wrists — the 19cm mesh can be sized exactly, up to around 18cm. A guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like, and this little steel cushion works equally well as a main watch or as an evening second watch.

Each watch is inspected by our watchmakers before shipping. In case of a mechanism malfunction during the first year, we cover the repair.
