Atelier Note
Two gold hands on brushed gold, nothing else — the 1979 TV screen reduced to its purest form, in 6.4 millimetres of thickness.
A golden Seiko TV, reduced to two hands
This Seiko watch is a 1979 dress watch, built on a TV case: a cushion shape with softened corners and curved sides, evoking the television screen of its era. Gold-plated over a steel base, it measures 33mm with a 6.4mm thickness — a format that has presence on the wrist, yet slips under a cuff.
The brushed golden dial is rendered in the same material as the case, so that the watch appears carved from a single block of gold. The applied baton hour markers, polished and faceted, stand out only through their relief, beneath the signatures Seiko and Quartz and the quartz emblem. Two golden baton hands are enough: no seconds hand, no date, no colour — a fully embraced monochrome gold aesthetic.
This purity is no coincidence: the Seiko 7820 calibre is a two-hand quartz movement that Seiko designed specifically for its ultra-thin watches in the late 1970s. By removing the seconds, the movement becomes slimmer and the dial calmer. This one has been checked and fitted with a new battery.
This watch was produced for the Japanese market — what collectors refer to as JDM, Japanese Domestic Market. It is fitted with a later English green crocodile-grain leather strap, with a steel Buckle pin buckle: the deep green against the gold is a stylist’s pairing, taking this watch out of the expected register.
Three points to note
01
Monochrome gold — case, dial, hour markers and hands in the same material: a watch in a single block.
02
Two hands on calibre 7820 — the ultra-thin quartz that Seiko reserved for its finest watches.
03
Case TV of 33mm — the 1979 screen, worn here on a contrasting English green leather strap.
Why choose a vintage dress Seiko?
This vintage Seiko watch occupies a precise place among men’s and women’s vintage watches: its 33mm TV case with 36mm of Lug-to-lug makes it a vintage dress watch that can be worn equally well by both, and its two-hand register places it in the lineage of pared-back watches — those that tell the time without ever commenting on it.
Like all our vintage quartz watches , this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement verification, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Each vintage watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and lifetime guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions
What is a TV case?
It is a cushion-shaped case with softened corners and slightly curved sides, recalling the screen of the television sets of its era. The shape enjoyed its golden age between the mid-1970s and the 1980s, before disappearing almost completely from catalogs. Today it is returning among the most sought-after vintage shapes, precisely because no current production has revived it.
Why does this watch have only two hands?
Because its caliber 7820 is a two-hand quartz movement, which Seiko designed for its ultra-thin watches: by removing the seconds hand, the movement becomes thinner and the dial gains a calmness that watches with a seconds hand do not have. The movement operates exactly like a classic quartz movement, with a battery to be changed every two to three years.
Isn’t a golden dial a bit “too much”?
No, because it all comes down to the material: the dial is brushed like the case, without excessive shine, and the hour markers stand out only through their relief. The brushed gold of this period has a matte glow, closer to fabric than to a mirror — and the English green strap that accompanies it pulls it toward an almost sporty-chic register. It is a golden watch that can be worn without a second thought.
How should a gold-plated case be cared for?
Plating is a layer of gold applied over a base metal, which grows thinner over time in the areas most exposed to friction. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for routine care; avoid abrasive products, perfumes, and household cleaners, which accelerate wear. On this watch, the plating is even, with fine signs of use.
Is this piece suited to a slim or larger wrist?
At 33mm wide, 36mm Lug-to-lug and 6.4mm thick, it suits wrists of approximately 15 to 18cm — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its TV case carries its presence through its width and slips easily under a cuff. The Lug width measures 20mm, making it easy to change the strap.
