Atelier Note
Two signatures on the same dial — the export name in capital letters, the Petrodvorets script beneath: the Soviet watch that crossed the Iron Curtain.
An Raketa Exacta, the Soviet watch designed for the West
This watch is a Raketa Exacta, produced in the 1970s by the Petrodvorets manufacture, near Saint Petersburg — Russia’s oldest factory, founded by Peter the Great in 1721 and turned to watchmaking after the war under the name Raketa, “rocket,” in tribute to Gagarin.
Its double signature tells the story of the commercial Cold War: EXACTA in capital letters — one of the front names under which the USSR exported its watches to the West, where “Raketa” sounded too Soviet — and the Raketa script beneath, which denies nothing. The mention 1MP at the bottom of the dial is the Petrodvorets factory code: same manufacture, same mechanics, passport-style presentation.
The off-white dial embraces export purity: double hour markers — two twin bars, steel and black — all around the hour track, a dotted minute track, the mention 19 JEWELS, and three black baton hands, with a fine seconds hand. A design that could have been Swiss — that was exactly the intention.
The polished tonneau case of 32.7mm carries its taut flanks toward the open lugs. The 19-jewel hand-wound mechanical movement has been checked by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted on a later black smooth leather strap.
Three points to note
01
Double Exacta Raketa signature — the export name and the original script on the same dial, a witness to the commercial Cold War.
02
19-jewel Petrodvorets mechanics — the manufacture founded by Peter the Great, with 1MP code on the dial.
03
Export purity — steel and black double hour markers on an off-white background, a design made to pass into the West.
Why choose a vintage Soviet watch?
This vintage Raketa watch holds a precise place among vintage men’s and women’s watches: its 32.7mm tonneau suits both men and women, and the Soviet export versions with double signature form a collecting category of their own — produced to convince the West, they are often better finished than their domestic sisters, and their story can be told in a single sentence on the wrist. The Soviet watch remains one of the last accessible vintage territories.
Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement check, examination of the dial, hands and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and lifetime-guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions
Why are there two names on the dial?
Because this watch was intended for export: the USSR sold its watches in the West under front names — Exacta was one of them — considered more marketable than Soviet brands. The cursive Raketa, retained beneath the capital letters, and the factory code 1MP at the bottom of the dial indicate its true origin: the Petrodvorets manufacture. This dual identity is what makes these versions so interesting today, as witnesses to trade across the Iron Curtain.
Who is Raketa?
The Petrodvorets manufacture, near Saint Petersburg — the oldest factory in Russia, founded in 1721 by Peter the Great as the atelier workshop of the Peterhof Palace. Converted to watchmaking after the war, it took the name Raketa in 1961, “rocket,” in tribute to Gagarin’s flight. It produced its calibres entirely in-house — a true manufacture — and still exists today.
What does 19 jewels mean?
Nineteen jewels: the synthetic stones that serve as bearings for the movement’s pivots to reduce wear. It is a generous count for a three-hand watch of that period — a step above the standard 17 jewels — and a point the manufacture proudly displayed on the dial for Western buyers accustomed to this criterion.
How do you wind a hand-wound watch?
Gently turn the crown clockwise, about twenty turns, until you feel resistance. Never force it beyond that point. Daily winding, at the same time of day, is enough to keep the watch running — Petrodvorets calibres are renowned for their robustness.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a diameter of 32.7mm, 39.6mm Lug-to-lug and 9mm thick, it suits wrists of approximately 15 to 18.5cm — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its compact tonneau makes it discreet and ideal for everyday wear. The Lug width measures 18mm, making it easy to change the strap.
