Atelier Note
A seafoam green that brightens at the center and darkens at the edges, streaked with gold — Japan’s third manufacture, in its seventies color.
A Orient Three Star, with a seventies gradient green
This watch is a Orient Three Star, produced in the 1970s by Japan’s third great manufacture — founded in 1950, independent at the time and producing its own calibres, now a member of the Seiko Epson group. Less well known in Europe than its two elders, Orient is the brand for connoisseurs of Japanese vintage: manufacture automatics, still at gentle price levels.
The sunburst seafoam green dial is what sets it apart at first glance: a gradient that brightens at the center and deepens toward the edges — the seventies vignette effect — beneath golden applied baton hour markers punctuated with luminous dots, the line’s three stars, and the words Crystal 21 Jewels. Green is the color vintage seeks today, and this one is original, never retouched.
The day-date window at three o’clock displays the day in English or Spanish, as desired — period export targeted both Americas — and the pusher at two o’clock corrects the day with a press, without touching the crown: a signature of Orient automatic watches of this generation.
The tonneau case in steel, measuring 35.2mm, with brushed faceted sides, carries the decade’s design. The in-house automatic movement — calibre Orient, to be confirmed upon opening — has been checked by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a later cognac grained leather strap with golden topstitching.
Three points to note
01
Gradient seafoam green dial — the original, never-retouched seventies sunburst, in the color vintage is seeking.
02
Japanese manufacture — Orient produced its own automatic calibres, 21 jewels here.
03
Day-date with corrector — the pusher at two o’clock sets the day, in English or Spanish.
Why choose a vintage Orient?
This vintage Orient watch holds a precise place among men’s and women’s vintage watches: its 35.2mm case for 42mm of Lug-to-lug can be worn by either, and it offers an in-house Japanese automatic movement — not a sourcing move — at one of the most accessible price points on the market. Japanese vintage from the 1970s is the territory where values have been rising for five years, and Orient remains its discreet gateway.
Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement check, examination of the dial, hands and case. Every Japanese vintage watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and lifetime guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Orient?
The third major Japanese watch manufacture, founded in 1950 in Tokyo — independent at the time of this watch, it designed and produced its own automatic calibers, and today belongs to the Seiko Epson group. Less widely distributed in Europe than its two elders, it is the brand sought after by connoisseurs of Japanese vintage: the same manufacture quality, with values that remain accessible.
What do the three stars mean?
They are the emblem of the Three Star line, launched by Orient in the 1970s: its widely distributed, robust day-date automatics produced for the entire world. The three stars on the dial are its signature — a line that became so emblematic that Orient still produces it today, making original seventies examples witnesses to the first generation.
How does the day display work in two languages?
The day disk bears each day in two languages — English and Spanish on this example, as the period export market targeted both Americas. The pusher at two o'clock advances the day with one press, without touching the crown, and allows you to choose the displayed language: simply stop on the version you prefer.
How does an automatic watch work?
An oscillating weight, driven by the movements of the wrist, continuously winds the spring: when worn every day, the watch never needs to be wound by hand. After stopping, a few turns of the crown and setting the time are enough to get it going again. Avoid setting the date between 9pm and 3am, when the changeover mechanism is engaged.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or large wrist?
With a diameter of 35.2mm, 42mm Lug-to-lug, and a thickness of 10.9mm, it suits wrists of approximately 15.5 to 19cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its faceted tonneau carries the presence of the seventies without excess. The Lug width measures 18mm, making it easy to change the strap.
