This Omega Seamaster reference 14700-1 SC dates from 1961, at the heart of the years when the line, created in 1948 for Omega's centenary, was the house's everyday watch, both robust and dressy. It is powered by calibre 552, launched in 1958: a full-rotor automatic with 24 jewels, beating at 19,800 vibrations per hour and offering fifty hours of power reserve, one of Omega's most renowned movements, kept in the catalogue until 1969. SC, for center seconds. A steel automatic watch measuring 34mm, with a crosshair dial, those two fine lines crossed at the center that the Seamaster of the period wore like a signature.
Its silvered dial shows a warm speckled patina, denser toward the lower part, born of time and unique to this example. Two fine lines cross it at the center, the crosshair motif; twelve applied steel hour markers, doubled at 12 o'clock, bear at their tip a patinated luminous dot; two original dauphine hands with luminous channels and a slender central seconds hand. The Ω and Omega Automatic beneath 12, Seamaster in cursive above 6, Swiss Made at the bottom. The dial is the watch's own; an old restoration of its surface cannot be ruled out.
The 34mm steel case, 42mm Lug-to-lug and 10.5mm thick, features a polished bezel and straight faceted lugs, the early-1960s Seamaster design, with a steel caseback, an original signed crown and an acrylic Crystal. The automatic calibre 552 has been serviced by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a black crocodile-style leather strap with a steel pin buckle Buckle, both later additions.
