Omega Seamaster Cosmic steel: the automatic day-date with C-shaped case and sandblasted dial
This Omega watch is a Seamaster Cosmic, reference 166.036, produced in the late 1960s. Unisex, it can be worn just as well by a man as by a woman. Its steel case adopts the famed C-shaped silhouette, this rounded case design with integrated lugs popularized by Gérald Genta, and is distinguished by a monocoque construction: without a separate screw-down case back, the movement is accessed from the front. It measures 35mm (38mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 40mm and a thickness of 11mm.
The sandblasted silver dial offers a granular texture that captures the light with a subtle shimmer, framed by a contrasting minute track around the periphery. Faceted applied baton indexes rhythm the outer edge, the Ω symbol surmounts the OMEGA and Automatic signatures, and the mention Seamaster Cosmic occupies the lower part. A day-date window is set at 3 o'clock, with the day displayed in English. The faceted baton hands and a slim seconds hand complete the ensemble.
Beating inside is the Omega 752 calibre, an automatic movement with 24 jewels, one of the maison's most accomplished creations in the late 1960s. It manages the quickset day and date display: a simple pull on the crown is enough to correct the date, a function considered highly advanced at the time. The movement of this example has been serviced by our watchmaker. Omega was then at the height of its art in movement-making, which explains the reputation for reliability of this calibre.
On the wrist, this piece wears like a daily watch full of character. The C-shaped case, the sandblasted dial and the day-date complication create an ensemble that is both sporty and dressy, highly representative of Omega's style in the late sixties. It is fitted with black leather, with a Buckle pin buckle, which is not original. The Lug width of 19mm leaves the choice of replacement straps open.
Three points to note
- The 752 calibre is a high-grade automatic with 24 jewels and quickset day-date: one of Omega's most accomplished movements in the late 1960s.
- The case is monocoque: access to the movement is from the front, a particularity best entrusted to a watchmaker familiar with these constructions.
- The sandblasted dial shows a slight speckling and the steel of the case bears traces of wear, consistent with the age of the piece. We prefer to note this rather than embellish it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Omega Seamaster Cosmic?
The Seamaster Cosmic is a line of de ville and lightweight sports watches produced by Omega in the late 1960s. It is recognized by its C-shaped case, the rounded-case design popularized by Gérald Genta, and comes in simple versions or, as here, with a day-date complication. It is a highly appreciated entry point into vintage Omega automatic watches.
Is the Omega 752 calibre reliable?
Yes, it is one of Omega's great automatics. The 752 is a 24-jewel movement with quick-set day and date, considered very advanced for its era. Omega was then at the height of its watchmaking mastery. Its robustness and the availability of its parts make servicing accessible. The movement in this example has been serviced by our watchmaker and is guaranteed for one year.
How do you set the day and date on this Omega?
The 752 calibre features a quick-set mechanism: by pulling the crown to its outer position and turning it, the day and date advance rapidly. Avoid adjusting these indications between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., the period during which the calendar mechanism is engaged, in order not to damage it.
What is a monocoque case?
A monocoque case is machined from a single piece, without a separate screw-down case back. The movement is fitted and removed from the front, after removing the Crystal. This construction originally offered better water resistance, but requires you to entrust servicing to a watchmaker familiar with these so-called "front loader" watches.
Is a 35mm case suitable for which wrist?
With a 35mm diameter but a Lug-to-lug of 40mm and a generous C-shaped case, this Cosmic wears larger than its measurements suggest. It fits wrists from 15.5 to 19cm in circumference. It is a versatile and timeless format, now highly sought after again.
