Atelier Note
A Crystal cut with facets like a set stone — seventeen millimetres of Omega catching the light with every gesture, the 1964 cocktail watch.
A 1964 Omega cocktail watch, beneath a Crystal cut like a stone
This Omega watch, reference 511.166, is dated to 1964 by its serial number — on a mechanical Omega, the year is read, not estimated. It is a cocktail watch: a jewel-like 17.4mm format, designed for evening wear, from the era when the great houses designed their ladies' watches as jewelry.
Its Crystal cut with facets is what sets it apart at first glance: a crown of facets encircles the dial, cut into the mineral Crystal as one cuts a stone — each tilt of the wrist lights up a different angle. It is the grand gesture of 1960s cocktail watches, which contemporary watchmaking no longer produces.
Beneath this prism, the silver dial expresses Omega purity: twelve applied baton indices in golden tone with black edging, the OMEGA signature, two slender black hands — nothing else. The gold-plated case, with its angular claw lugs, retains its original fluted crown.
The Omega calibre 464, a hand-wound mechanical movement, belongs to the generation of ladies' movements that the house made with the same seriousness as its men's calibres. Checked by our partner watchmakers, it is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a later black leather strap.
Three points to note
01
Crystal cut with facets — a crown of facets that lights up the dial with every gesture, the cocktail style of the 1960s.
02
Dated to 1964 by its serial — on a mechanical Omega, the year is read in the movement.
03
17mm jewel format — Omega mechanics on the scale of a ring, a segment that has disappeared from the new-watch market.
Why choose a vintage cocktail watch?
This pre-owned Omega watch holds a special place among our women's vintage watches: it is a cocktail watch in the literal sense — an evening jewel animated by a true mechanical movement from a great house, in a format the industry abandoned to quartz. It can be worn on its own or among fine bracelets, and its faceted Crystal does what no smooth watch does: create light.
Like all our vintage mechanical watches , this one has been opened and checked by our partner watchmakers: verification of the caliber and its consistency with the reference, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Each vintage Omega watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and guaranteed lifetime authenticity.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cocktail watch?
It is the evening jewel-watch, as the great houses designed it from the 1950s to the 1970s: a format reduced to the essential, precious or golden materials, and plays of light — here a faceted-cut Crystal. It was worn with evening attire, like a bracelet that tells the time. The genre disappeared with the arrival of quartz, which makes period mechanical examples true collector's pieces.
What does the faceted-cut Crystal add?
Light. The facets cut into the thickness of the Crystal encircle the dial and refract every light source into flashes — the watch scintillates with each movement, like a set stone. This is workmanship specific to cocktail watches of that period, demanding to execute, and which industrial watchmaking has abandoned. This one is period-correct, its edges are sharp.
A mechanical movement in a 17mm watch?
Yes — and it has become rare. Ladies’ mechanical calibres, miniaturized to the extreme like this Omega 464 calibre, have virtually disappeared with quartz: the industry hardly produces them anymore in this format. This watch beats to the rhythm of a hand-wound movement from a great house — an experience no new watch offers anymore in this size.
How do you wind a hand-wound watch?
Gently turn the crown clockwise, about twenty turns, until you feel resistance. Never force it beyond that. Daily winding, at the same time of day, is enough to keep the watch running and ensures the best regularity.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a diameter of 17.4mm, 23.1mm Lug-to-lug, and a thickness of 7.1mm, it is more a ring-sized format than a watch, intended for slim to medium wrists — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. It can be worn on its own or among slim bracelets, as an evening piece. The 8mm Lug width requires a suitable strap, such as the one fitted to it.
