Seven decades written across a cream dial
This Omega watch, reference 14371, produced in 1956, wears its age in full light. Against the cream background of the dial, a speckled patina has developed across the entire surface over the course of seven decades; it extends all the way to the golden dauphine hands, giving the whole a unity that only time can produce — and that no example can reproduce twice. The applied golden hour markers, doubled at twelve o’clock, and the OMEGA signature complete a display reduced to hours and minutes.
The steel 33mm case, with faceted lugs, measures just 8.1mm thick. This slimness comes from the movement: the Omega calibre 511, a 17-jewel hand-wound mechanical movement, measures only 3.25mm in height for 25mm in diameter, beating at 19,800 vibrations per hour. It belongs to the 510 family of the 1950s, those slim and robust calibres that equipped the house’s dress watches.
The dauphine hands — that faceted triangular shape emblematic of the 1950s — are original, as are the dial and crown. The piece is fitted with a grained brown leather strap, secured by a Buckle steel pin buckle.

Is the dial patina original?
Yes. The cream dial and the dauphine hands are original and have aged together: the speckled patina has developed uniformly over seven decades, on the surface of the dial as well as on the hands. It is this unity of age, impossible to recreate, that distinguishes a preserved example from a restored piece. It is fully visible in our photographs.
What is the Omega caliber 511?
It is a 17-jewel hand-wound mechanical movement, produced by Omega in the 1950s within the 510 family. Measuring 25mm in diameter for only 3.25mm in height, and beating at 19,800 vibrations per hour, it is the reason for this piece's slim profile. Its simple construction makes it easy to service even today.
What does “dauphine hands” mean?
It is a triangular, faceted hand shape whose surfaces catch the light differently depending on the angle. Emblematic of dress watches from the 1950s and 1960s, it is highly sought after by collectors on pieces from this decade. Those on this example are original.
How should this watch be cared for on a daily basis?
A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for the steel case. The Crystal acrylic marks more easily than a Crystal sapphire, but its micro-scratches can be polished easily. As water resistance is not guaranteed, any contact with water should be avoided. For hand-winding, a daily action, preferably at a fixed time, ensures regular timekeeping.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a 33mm diameter, a 39.5mm Lug-to-lug, and an 8.1mm thickness, it suits wrists of around 15 to 18cm. Its format places it in the classic dress category, equally wearable by a man or a woman. The 18mm Lug width makes it easy to change the strap.
