Nina Ricci gold-plated: the dress tank watch with a ribbed golden dial, signed by the Parisian fashion house

This watch is signed Nina Ricci, the famous Parisian fashion house founded in 1932, and powered by a Japanese quartz movement Seiko, a guarantee of reliability. Unisex, it can be worn equally well by a woman or a man with a slim wrist. Its rectangular gold-plated tank case, with brancards adorned with fine fluting, embodies dress elegance in the française style. It measures 21mm wide (21mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 28mm and a thickness of only 5.5mm. A slender, well-proportioned piece, halfway between a watch and a jewel.

The golden dial is the piece’s greatest refinement. Its surface is adorned with fine vertical ribbing, tuxedo-style, catching the light in a play of silky lines. Free of numerals, it bears only discreet golden chevron hour markers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, the house’s “N” logo at 12 o’clock, and the NINA RICCI signature at its center. Two fine golden baton hands trace the time with absolute minimalist elegance.

Inside beats a Japanese quartz movement Seiko, calibre 2320, dressy and reliable. In practice, servicing is limited to battery replacement by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before shipping. It is the happy union of a French couturier’s design and proven Japanese mechanics.

On the wrist, the piece plays the card of the refined de ville jewel. The warm gold-plating and the ribbed golden dial create a dress watch of great elegance, highlighted here by a black genuine crocodile leather strap. This strap is not original; it is fitted with a gold-plated Buckle. The Lug width of 15mm guides the choice of replacement straps toward slim widths.

Three points to note

  • The watch is signed Nina Ricci, a Parisian fashion house, while being powered by a reliable and easy-to-maintain Japanese quartz movement Seiko.
  • The golden dial with fine vertical ribbing, tuxedo-style, is the true refinement of the piece: a play of lines that changes with the light.
  • The case is gold-plated, not solid gold; the dial shows a few fine signs of wear, disclosed in full transparency.

Frequently asked questions

Does Nina Ricci make watches?
Nina Ricci is above all a Parisian fashion house, founded in 1932, renowned for its perfumes and haute couture. Like many fashion houses, it offered licensed watches, whose dials bear its signature and its “N” logo. These pieces combine a couturier’s design with a proven watch movement, here a Japanese quartz Seiko.

Is this watch a Seiko or a Nina Ricci?
In a sense, both: the watch is signed Nina Ricci on the dial, that is its brand, but it is powered by a quartz movement made by Seiko. This is common practice and a mark of reliability: the style and identity are those of the house of française, the mechanics those of a major Japanese watchmaker.

Is the case solid gold?
No: it is a gold-plated case. The plating brings the warmth and brilliance of gold for a fraction of its price. It is a typical construction for dress watches from fashion houses. This case shows fine signs of wear, noted in full transparency.

Is this watch water-resistant?
No. Water resistance is never guaranteed on a vintage watch: the original gaskets have aged and the pressure of the caseback is no longer what it was on the first day. Avoid the shower, pool, and sea. Simple contact with rainwater, however, does not pose any difficulty.

What wrist does this watch suit?
With a tank case 20.9mm wide and a Lug-to-lug of 27.9mm, it is above all a women’s watch, or a men’s watch for a slim wrist. That said, a watch is also a matter of style: depending on one’s tastes and the desired look, it can be worn beyond these guidelines by anyone who appreciates its refined dressy character. Size is only a guide, never a rule.
