Atelier Note
A red dot at the tip of the date hand, the sub-seconds turning at six o'clock — the 1950s Calendograf, the one Switzerland offered to Churchill in its first version.
A triple-calendar Movado, with a red dot
This Movado watch is a Calendograf, reference 14788 — the triple-calendar line that the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture produced from 1938 to 1954, one of the most important in its history, of which Switzerland presented an example to Winston Churchill in 1946. This one belongs to the 1950s generation, powered by the in-house calibre 475.
The dial arranges its three calendars in circles: the day and the month appear in two apertures at nine and three o'clock, and the date is read on the outer ring, indicated by a central hand ending in a red dot. The large black Arabic numerals, clear and highly legible, frame a guilloché sub-seconds at six o'clock — the signature of this generation. The surface bears a pronounced speckled patina, born of its seventy years, fully visible in our photographs and detailed below.
The 33mm steel case, with fixed lugs, houses on its side the correctors for the day and month — the discreet pushers specific to the Calendograf. The crown was replaced during the life of the watch, and the luminous material on the hands has been restored — a customary intervention on these watches, which we detail with complete clarity below.
The Movado calibre 475, a mechanical hand-wound movement, is an in-house movement with modular construction: a complete calendar plate mounted on a classic base. Serviced by our partner watchmakers, it is guaranteed for one year.
Three points to note
01
Complete triple calendar — day and month in apertures, date with red dot on the outer ring.
02
In-house calibre 475 — designed and manufactured by Movado, serviced and guaranteed for one year.
03
Guilloché sub-seconds — the register at six o'clock that defines the 1950s generation.
Why choose a vintage Movado?
This pre-owned Movado watch occupies a precise place among vintage men's and women's watches: its 33mm case for 40.2mm of Lug-to-lug can be worn equally by either, and its complication makes it a collector's watch at a budget unrelated to the triple calendars of the Geneva houses. For the past few years, collectors have been rediscovering what Movado was before quartz: a fully fledged manufacture with in-house calibres.
Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: verification of the calibre and its three calendars, examination of the dial, hands and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and authenticity guaranteed for life.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Movado Calendograf?
It is the triple-calendar watch line that Movado produced from 1938 to 1954, at a time when the La Chaux-de-Fonds house was a fully fledged manufacture, designing its own calibres. Presented at the 1940 New York World's Fair, the Calendograf entered history in 1946, when Switzerland offered one to Winston Churchill during his visit. Production stopped in 1954 and the line was never revived.
How are the three calendars set?
The day and the month are set using the correctors housed in the side of the case, which are pressed with a fine tool or a pen tip — the period construction of the Calendograf. The date, indicated by the red-tipped hand, is a simple calendar: at the end of months with fewer than thirty-one days, it is corrected by hand in a matter of seconds, as on nearly all triple calendars of the period.
Have the hands been restored?
Yes, and we say so plainly: their luminous material was redone during the life of the watch. This is a customary intervention on watches from this period, whose original radium crumbles and is replaced both for use and for safety. The hands themselves are original; only their luminous filling is later, and our photographs show it exactly as it is.
What is an in-house calibre?
A movement designed and manufactured by the brand itself, rather than purchased from a supplier. The calibre 475 in this watch is one of them: Movado built it with a modular calendar plate mounted on a sub-seconds base, an architecture that allowed simple servicing and recognized reliability. It is this technical independence that has earned Movado renewed attention from collectors today.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a 33mm diameter, 40.2mm Lug-to-lug, and 12.4mm thickness, it suits wrists of approximately 15 to 19cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its case height, characteristic of triple calendars, gives it real presence. Its fixed 16mm lugs require a suitable strap, like the one fitted to it.
