Zenith Museum — The Icon of Watch Design, in Burgundy

This Zenith Museum watch features one of the most famous dials in horological history: a clean disc, with no numerals or hour markers, punctuated by a single gold dot at 12 o'clock symbolizing the sun at its zenith. A design by Nathan George Horwitt in 1947, so emblematic that it became the first watch dial exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York — hence its “Museum” name.

While this dial is now associated with Movado, its history is richer: from 1969 to the early 1980s, Zenith and Movado belonged to the same group. During this period, Zenith was authorized to produce Museum-dial watches signed with its name. This piece, marked Swiss Zenith Quartz, is one of those objects born from the collaboration between two major Swiss houses — a detail that makes it a collector's watch.

What further distinguishes this piece is its color: not the classic black, but a deep, lacquered burgundy red, framed by a black outer ring and accented with two fine gold hands. A rare and dressy variation of the original design, both understated and bold.

The 31mm gold-plated case with an extra-thin profile (5mm) underscores the dress character of the piece, to be worn equally well by a man or a woman. Mounted on a matching burgundy lizard-style strap, this vintage Zenith is a lesson in minimalism. Selected and authenticated by Atelier Victor. Fast and secure international shipping.

Three points to note about this piece

  • Museum dial with gold dot, 1947 Horwitt design exhibited at the MoMA — one of the most iconic watch designs.
  • Rare lacquered burgundy red variation (rather than the classic black), for a refined and distinctive character.
  • Signed Zenith, from the Zenith-Movado era: extra-thin 5mm profile, Unisex format.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why does a Zenith bear Movado's "Museum" dial?
Because Zenith and Movado belonged to the same watchmaking group from 1969 to the early 1980s. During this period, Zenith was authorized to produce watches with the Museum dial under its own name. A piece signed Zenith with this dial is therefore authentic and bears witness to this historic collaboration between two great Swiss maisons.
  • What is the Museum dial?
It is a design created by Nathan George Horwitt in 1947: a clean dial, without numerals, marked by a single gold dot at 12 o'clock symbolizing the sun. It was the first watch dial exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which gave it its name.
  • Is the burgundy dial original?
Yes. The lacquered burgundy-red dial, its black perimeter, the gold dot and the hands are original. This hue is a rare variation of the classic design, usually offered in black.
  • Is this watch suitable for a man or a woman?
Both. With its 31mm extra-thin case, it is a Unisex piece, particularly elegant under a cuff.
  • What is the international delivery time?
Dispatch within 48 hours, worldwide delivery in 3 to 5 days via DHL Express, insurance included.
