Atelier Note

A sunburst brushed silver tone, eleven markers cut like black batons beneath an applied 12, a framed date at three o’clock, and a steel cushion case with integrated lugs: 37 millimetres of seventies style, beneath a five-point crown.

A vintage Velona watch from the 1970s, 37mm brushed steel cushion case with date

This vintage Velona watch bears a discreet signature, a five-point crown as its emblem, and nothing documented behind it: Velona is one of those small Swiss assemblers of the 1970s, the assembly workshops of which the country then counted in the hundreds, buying their movements from ébauche makers, their cases and dials from other specialists, and signing the whole with their own name. The dial says what matters: 17 jewels, Incabloc, Swiss Made, a Swiss lever movement protected against shocks, with date. And the design is that of its decade, a 37mm brushed steel cushion case with integrated lugs, beneath a sunburst silver dial.

Its silver dial is sunburst, brushed in rays from the centre, and shifts from white to grey depending on the light. An applied 12, eleven applied baton markers with black centres, a minute track punctuated by luminous dots at the hours, two baton hands with black centres, a slim central seconds hand, and at three o’clock the date window framed in metal. Beneath the five-point crown, Velona; above six o’clock, 17 jewels and Incabloc.

The 37mm steel cushion case, only 40mm Lug-to-lug thanks to its integrated lugs, for a thickness of 12.2mm, is brushed on top and polished along the sides, with a steel caseback, an original fluted crown and an acrylic Crystal. The 17-jewel hand-wound mechanical movement, with Incabloc shock protection, has been checked by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a black crocodile-style leather strap and its Buckle, both later additions.

Three points to note

01

37mm brushed steel cushion case — integrated seventies lugs, 40mm Lug-to-lug, presence without length.

02

Sunburst silver with date — applied markers with black centres, luminous dots, framed window at three o’clock.

03

17 jewels, Incabloc — hand-wound, central seconds, for him as for her.

Why choose a vintage watch from the 1970s?

This vintage Velona watch holds a distinct place among men’s and women’s vintage watches: its 37mm width and 40mm length suit both alike, and it offers the complete design language of the 1970s—brushed cushion case, integrated lugs, silver sunburst dial and date display—chosen for its design more than for its signature. An everyday vintage mechanical watch, at an entry-level budget for authentic vintage.

Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement verification, examination of the dial, hands and case. Each vintage watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and guaranteed lifetime authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Velona?
A small Swiss établisseur from the 1970s, absent from the books: Switzerland counted hundreds of them at the time, buying their movements from ébauche manufacturers, their cases and dials from other specialists, and signing the whole under their own name. Its emblem is a five-point crown. The dial of this one bears what these workshops had best to say: Swiss Made, 17 jewels, Incabloc. It is chosen for its design, not for its signature.

What do 17 jewels and Incabloc mean?
17 jewels, seventeen rubies: synthetic stones used as bearings for the movement's pivots to limit wear, the usual count for a quality Swiss mechanical movement. Incabloc is the name of the shock absorber that protects the balance staff against shocks, adopted by most Swiss watches since the 1950s.

Why 37mm wide for only 40mm Lug-to-lug?
Because the lugs are integrated into the case: the cushion extends into two short attachments instead of protruding lugs. It is a 1970s design, giving a watch that is wide but short, sitting very neatly on the wrist.

Has the movement been checked?
Yes. Our partner watchmakers have checked the 17-jewel movement, the dial, the hands, and the case; it is guaranteed for one year. A hand-wound watch is wound every day, and a vintage watch is not guaranteed water-resistant.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or large wrist?
At 37mm wide, 40mm Lug-to-lug, and 12.2mm thick, it suits wrists of around 15 to 20cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its integrated lugs let it sit flat on a slim wrist as well as on a larger wrist. The Lug width measures 18mm, making it easy to change the strap.
