Rectangular Gold-Plated Melux: the dress watch with a gilded dial and vertical stripe
This Melux watch is a rectangular-shaped piece in gold-plated metal, unisex, suitable for both men and women. It belongs to the great tradition of dress watches, those rectangular pieces worn in town rather than for sport, which defined the golden age of horological elegance in the 20th century. Its case, with softened angles and solid flanks, measures 24mm (26mm with the crown) for a Lug-to-lug of 37mm and a thickness of only 6mm. A slim, graphic piece, made to slip under a cuff.
The gilded dial is the watch’s true design statement. A broad brushed vertical stripe, more matte in finish, runs from top to bottom across the dial and stands out against the sunburst gilded background: a tone-on-tone contrast of textures, understated and resolutely graphic. Small applied gold dot indexes mark the hours, the melux signature occupies the upper center, and the Quartz mention sits at the bottom. Two slim gold baton hands are all that is needed: no seconds hand, no date, only the essentials.
Inside beats a quartz movement with two hands. The watch is easy to maintain, with a battery change by any watchmaker. The movement of this example has been checked by our watchmaker and the battery replaced before shipment. It is a fashion watch from the 1990s, designed for style rather than complication.

No. This is an authentic Melux watch, signed by its brand on the dial. Rectangular-shaped watches belong to the common vocabulary of dress watchmaking, adopted by many maisons throughout the 20th century. This piece makes no claim beyond what it is: an elegant and accessible-shaped watch, at a price incomparable with a luxury piece.
Is the case solid gold?
No. It is a gold-plated case with a steel back, a common construction on fashion watches. The plating brings the warmth and brilliance of gold for a fraction of its price. This piece shows fine signs of wear on its plating, disclosed with complete transparency and consistent with its age.
Is the bracelet in good condition?
The original patent leather bracelet is weakened by time, particularly at the lugs where the finish is beginning to crack. It remains wearable as is, but we recommend planning for its replacement. With a Lug width of 16 mm, you will easily find a replacement bracelet from any watchmaker or leather goods specialist.
Is this watch water-resistant?
