A two-hand Longines, in steel, reduced to the essentials

This Longines watch is a dress watch from the 1980s, from the generation in which the Saint-Imier maison transposed its classical design onto quartz calibres. The round polished steel case measures 33mm with 6.5mm thickness: slim bezel, straight faceted lugs, fluted crown. Nothing is decorative.

The dial follows the same logic. It is silver sunburst, brushed in rays from the center, and its tone shifts from white to gray depending on the angle of the wrist. The applied baton hour markers, polished and outlined with a black line, mark the hours without a minute track or numerals. The Longines signature and winged hourglass occupy the upper part, the Quartz mention in script the lower part.

Two black baton hands, slim and straight, and nothing else: no seconds hand, no date. This is the choice of the Longines calibre 150, a two-hand quartz designed for slim watches. The dial gains a stillness that watches with central seconds do not have — the time is read at a glance, without motion.

The movement has been checked and fitted with a new battery. The Crystal mineral crystal shows signs of wear that we note and rate 7/10. This watch is fitted with a black crocodile-grain leather strap with Buckle steel pin buckle, both later additions.

Three points to note

  • Two hands, with no seconds or date — a dial reduced to the essentials, powered by Longines calibre 150.
  • Silver sunburst dial with applied hour markers — brushed in rays, it changes tone with the light.
  • Steel and 6.5mm thick — a dress watch that slips easily under a cuff.

Why choose a vintage Longines?

Buying a vintage Longines watch rather than a contemporary dress watch means gaining access to the design of a maison that established the codes of the classic watch long before quartz existed. Longines dress models from the 1980s retain those proportions — slim case, applied hour markers, sunburst dial — with the reliability of a quartz movement.

This watch holds a distinctive place among men's and women's vintage watches: its 33mm case, 38mm Lug-to-lug, and 6.5mm thickness make it a vintage dress watch that can be worn equally by both.

Like all our vintage quartz watches, this one has been opened and checked by our watchmakers: verification of the movement, examination of the dial, hands, and case. Each pre-owned Longines watch we offer comes with an invoice Atelier Victor serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and lifetime guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this watch have only two hands?
Because its Longines caliber 150 is a two-hand quartz movement, designed for slim dress watches. Without a seconds hand or date, the dial is calmer and the watch thinner. It is a deliberate choice that Longines, like other houses, often adopted for its evening models: it tells the time, nothing else. The movement operates exactly like a three-hand quartz, with a battery to be changed every two to three years.

What is a sunburst dial?
It is a dial brushed in rays from the center, like the rays of the sun. Depending on the angle of the light, one half of the dial brightens while the other darkens, and the tone shifts from white to gray as the wrist moves. On this watch, the sunburst finish is original and intact.

The Crystal is rated 7/10: what should you expect?
The Crystal mineral crystal shows signs of wear in the form of scratches, visible to the naked eye from certain angles, which we prefer to note honestly rather than minimize. Unlike plexiglass, the Crystal mineral crystal cannot be polished; it must be replaced, and this is a simple and inexpensive operation for any watchmaker. We have left it original so that the buyer can decide.

Is a quartz Longines worth the same as a mechanical Longines?
They are not the same objects, and they are not compared on the same basis. A mechanical watch derives its value from its movement; a Longines quartz from the 1980s derives its value from its design, slimness, and everyday reliability, at a price point entirely different. This watch bears the house signature on the dial and caseback, and it is authenticated like all our watches.

For what wrist size is this watch suitable?
With a 33mm case and 38mm Lug-to-lug, this is the classic dress watch format, ideally worn on a slim to medium wrist, where the straight lugs follow the curve of the wrist and the 6.5mm thickness slips under a cuff. That said, a watch is also a matter of style: depending on personal taste and the desired look, this piece can be worn equally well by a man or a woman, on all kinds of wrists. Size guidance is only a reference, never a rule.
