This Jaeger-LeCoultre watch is a shaped dress watch in 18-carat gold, released in 1968: its original papers are dated 26 March 1968. The case measures 26mm wide, 34mm from top to bottom and 8.3mm thick, and the caseback is also in 18-carat gold.
The construction follows a clear design choice: a wide flat bezel occupies almost as much surface area as the dial, framing it like a mat frames an engraving. The lugs are cut into the case, flat and short, extending the case to the leather without protruding horns. The fluted gold crown is set at three o'clock, flush with the side.
The silver-tone square dial has a sunburst finish, with rays spreading from the centre and changing in tone with each movement of the wrist. The hours are marked by applied gold-tone baton markers and fine printed black lines, with no numerals or minute track. At the bottom of the dial, the only mention is SWISS MADE; below twelve, the Jaeger-LeCoultre signature.
Two slender gold-tone hands, with no seconds hand, keep the dial uncluttered. The hand-wound mechanical movement is wound by hand each day; it has been checked by our watchmakers and comes with a 1-year guarantee. The piece comes on a black crocodile-embossed leather strap, with its original gold-plated Buckle, and accompanied by its box and papers.

Condition and guarantee
- Overall condition : Very well preserved condition. The silvered sunburst dial is clear, its texture even, the applied batons and hands show no alteration; a very slight mark is present on the dial, at 12 o'clock. Crystal in good condition (9/10). The gold shows fine surface scratches from wear, more visible on the wide flat bezel and on the lugs. The overall condition is visible in our photographs.

Frequently asked questions
Why the word “tank” on a Jaeger-LeCoultre?
We use it as a shape term, in the same way as tonneau, cushion or carrure carrée: it describes a rectangular case with integrated lugs, a design that a large part of Swiss watchmaking produced in the twentieth century. Tank is also a model name registered by Cartier, and this piece has no link with that house: it is signed Jaeger-LeCoultre on the dial, and it is a Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Is the case solid gold?
The case and caseback are in 18-carat gold, that is 750 thousandths gold, and the original crown is also gold. It is therefore not plating: the material is the same on the surface and in depth, and scratches do not reveal a different metal. Only the Buckle of the bracelet is gold-plated.
What does a hand-wound movement imply?
There is neither a battery nor a rotor: the watch is wound by hand, turning the crown until you feel firm resistance, without forcing beyond that point. Once wound, it runs for about a day and a half depending on the calibres of this period. Worn daily, this amounts to one gesture a day, preferably at a fixed time.
What are the original 1968 papers for?
They date the piece in place of an estimate: the date of 26 March 1968 comes from the sales document, not from reading a serial number. Together with the box, they form what the market calls a full set, which weighs on the value of a dress watch from this period and is passed on with the watch.
How does a 26mm-wide case wear?
Width alone does not tell the whole story: the case measures 26mm from side to side but 34mm from top to bottom, and its flat bezel further enlarges the perceived surface. It sits on wrists of about 15 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. At 8.3mm thick, it slips under a shirt cuff.
