Atelier Note

A heart of silver, a ring of royal blue, a crown of orange — the seventies were never afraid of color, and this dial is joyful proof of it.

A Swiss seventies movement with a tricolor dial

This watch is a CasWatch, produced in Switzerland in the 1970s — one of those Swiss assembly houses that, before the quartz crisis, dressed proven mechanical movements with dials the major brands did not dare to make. That is precisely what makes it so compelling today: the pop graphics of the seventies, in their purest form, at an entry-level budget.

The tricolor dial is read in circles: a sunburst silver heart radiating from the center, a royal blue ring bearing the double white and orange block markers, and an orange dotted minute track encircling the whole. An orange-framed date window opens at three o'clock, beneath the words 17 RUBIS ANTIMAGNETIC. Three hands — two black and white, white seconds hand — cross the ensemble.

The tonneau steel 38mm case, with brushed sides, features a fluted bezel that frames the color with a striated line — the generous format of the decade, with real presence on the wrist.

The Swiss hand-wound mechanical movement with 17 jewels — caliber to be confirmed upon opening — has been checked by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a later black grained leather strap.

Three points to note

01

Seventies tricolor dial — sunburst silver, royal blue and orange: the decade's original pop graphics.

02

Swiss 17-jewel movement — antimagnetic, with date, checked and guaranteed for one year.

03

Tonneau with fluted bezel — 38mm of brushed steel, the full-bodied format of the 1970s.

Why choose a vintage seventies watch?

This vintage Swiss watch holds a distinct place among vintage men's and women's watches: its tonneau of 38mm can be worn by either, and its dial is the kind no longer made — the unapologetic color of the 1970s, before watchmaking became restrained again. It is the quintessential entry-level vintage mechanical watch: a true Swiss movement, a true period dial, and a budget that makes it possible to begin a collection.

Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and inspected by our partner watchmakers: movement check, examination of the dial, hands and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year warranty, and lifetime-guaranteed authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

Who is CasWatch?
One of the many Swiss assembly houses active before the quartz crisis: workshops that assembled proven mechanical calibres into freely designed cases and dials, often bolder than those of the major brands. Their history is sparsely documented — it is the dial, the movement and the condition that determine the value of these pieces, and we describe them for what they are.

What does “antimagnetic” mean?
That the movement is protected against common magnetic fields — loudspeakers, household magnets — which can disrupt the rate of a mechanical watch. This was a common selling point on Swiss watches from the 1960s and 1970s, inscribed on the dial. The protection remains effective for normal daily use.

How do you wind a hand-wound watch?
Gently turn the crown clockwise, about twenty turns, until you feel resistance. Never force it beyond that point. Daily winding, at the same time each day, is enough to keep the watch running and ensures the best regularity.

Is a watch from a little-known brand a good purchase?
It is, when bought for what it is: a period dial impossible to reproduce, a repairable Swiss movement, a condition described without reservation — and not for a name. These watches are the most affordable entry into authentic vintage, and their value lies in their design: this one exists only in a few surviving examples, and no two identical ones ever cross paths.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a 38mm diameter, 40.9mm Lug-to-lug and 12mm thickness, it suits wrists from approximately 15.5 to 19.5cm — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. It is the full-sized format of the 1970s, present on the wrist without excess. The Lug width measures 19mm, making it easy to change the strap.
