Atelier Note
A champagne dial that turns like a record in the light, twelve Roman numerals in an oval, two hands and nothing else: seven millimetres thick for the entire watch, tonneau from the 1970s.
An Aldex vintage watch from the 1970s, tonneau gold-plated with a sunburst champagne dial
This Aldex vintage watch bears a discreet signature. Aldex was one of those small Swiss establishers of the 1970s, those assembly workshops of which the country then counted hundreds: they bought their movements from ébauche manufacturers, their cases and dials from other specialists, and signed the whole under their own name. The dial states the essentials, 17 jewels and Incabloc beneath the signature, Swiss Made at the bottom: a Swiss lever movement, shock-protected, in a watch chosen more for its design than for its name. And the design is that of its decade: a tonneau case with curved sides, a sunburst champagne dial, Roman numerals, two fine hands and a thickness of 7mm that lets it slip beneath a cuff.
Its champagne dial is sunburst: a radiating brushed finish that turns with the light and shifts from golden to bronze depending on the angle. Twelve black Roman numerals, an oval railway track echoing the shape of the case, two black baton hands and no seconds hand: hours and minutes, the most pared-back display. The Aldex signature beneath the XII, Incabloc above the VI.
The tonneau gold-plated case, 30mm wide by 37mm Lug-to-lug and 7mm thick, features a stepped bezel and an original fluted crown, with a steel caseback and an acrylic Crystal. The hand-wound mechanical movement with 17 jewels, with Incabloc shock protection, has been checked by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted with a brown grained leather strap and its Buckle, both later additions.
Three points to note
01
Tonneau from the 1970s — gold-plated, 30mm wide, 7mm thick, the slim shaped watch of its decade.
02
Sunburst champagne — the radiating brushed finish beneath twelve Roman numerals and an oval railway track.
03
Two hands, 17 jewels — hand-wound, Incabloc, for him as for her.
Why choose a tonneau vintage watch?
This vintage Aldex watch holds a precise place among men's and women's vintage watches: its 30mm width and 7mm thickness suit both, and it offers the full design language of the 1970s, tonneau, sunburst champagne, Roman numerals, chosen more for its design than for its signature. A shaped vintage mechanical watch, at the entry-level budget of authentic vintage.
Like all our vintage mechanical watches, this one has been opened and checked by our partner watchmakers: inspection of the movement, examination of the dial, hands and case. Every vintage watch we offer comes with an Atelier Victor invoice serving as a certificate, a one-year guarantee, and authenticity guaranteed for life.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Aldex?
A small Swiss établisseur from the 1970s, unknown to the books: Switzerland then counted hundreds of them, buying their movements from ébauche makers, their cases and dials from other specialists, and signing the whole with their own name. The dial of this one bears what these workshops had best to say: Swiss Made, 17 jewels, Incabloc, that is to say a Swiss mechanical lever movement, protected against shocks. It is chosen for its design, not for its signature.
What is a tonneau watch?
A shaped watch whose case, taller than it is wide, has convex sides like the staves of a tonneau, somewhere between a rectangle and an oval. Appearing at the beginning of the 20th century, the design came back strongly in the 1970s, often in gold-plated finish and beneath sunburst dials. This one is a fine example, at 7mm thick.
Why is there no seconds hand?
By design choice: the watch shows only the hours and minutes, two slender hands on an uncluttered dial. This belongs to the world of dress watches, where the second is not necessary.
Has the movement been checked?
Yes. Our partner watchmakers have checked the 17-jewel movement, the dial, the hands and the case; it is guaranteed for one year. A hand-wound watch must be wound every day, and a vintage watch is not guaranteed water-resistant.
Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
At 30mm wide, 37mm Lug-to-lug and 7mm thick, it suits wrists of approximately 14 to 18cm — a guide, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its slim tonneau slips under any cuff. The Lug width measures 17mm.
