Atelier Note

A silvered dial that seventy years have speckled like an eggshell, eleven golden applied hour markers and an applied 12, two dauphine hands, and beneath them the calibre 471, Omega’s first full rotor, in a Seamaster from 1956 with lugs cut as if with a billhook.

An Omega Seamaster Watch 2802-7 SC from 1956, gold-plated with patinated dial and calibre 471

This Omega Seamaster reference 2802-7 SC dates from 1956, eight years after the line was born: the Seamaster was launched in 1948 for the house’s centenary, as Omega’s everyday watch, both robust and dressy at once. This one arrived at a precise moment in the brand’s history, the transition from “bumper” automatics, with limited-travel oscillating weight, to the full rotor that winds in both directions. Its calibre 471, designed and manufactured in Biel, is Omega’s first full rotor, introduced in 1954-1955, beating at 19,800 vibrations per hour, with the copper-coloured finish that characterises it; the same calibre also equips the Seamaster XVI of the Melbourne Olympic Games, in 1956. SC, for centre seconds. An automatic watch in gold-plated finish measuring 33.5mm, with the thick lugs of Seamaster from the 1950s.

Its original silvered dial bears a pronounced and even speckled patina, born of time and unique to this example. Eleven applied golden hour markers, arrow-shaped at the intermediate hours, an applied 12, a fine minute track, two original golden dauphine hands and a golden central seconds hand. The Ω and Omega Automatic beneath the 12, Seamaster in cursive above the 6, Swiss Made at the bottom.

The gold-plated 33.5mm case, 41mm Lug-to-lug and 11mm thick, features a slim bezel and thick lugs, faceted, the design of the Seamaster of the decade, with a steel caseback. The signed crown is original, its plating is worn; the acrylic Crystal was replaced during the watch’s life. The automatic calibre 471 has been serviced by our partner watchmakers and is guaranteed for one year. The watch is fitted on a black leather strap with Buckle steel pin buckle, both later.

Three points to note

01

Calibre 471 — Omega’s first full rotor, 1954-1955, manufactured in Biel, in a Seamaster from 1956.

02

Speckled dial — the patina of time on the silvered surface, golden applied hour markers and applied 12, dauphine hands.

03

Gold-plated with thick lugs — 33.5mm, the Seamaster design of the 1950s, for him as for her.

Why choose a vintage Omega Seamaster?

A pre-owned Omega watch from the manufacture, serviced, at an entry-level budget for the great Swiss signatures.

Like all our vintage automatic watches, this one has been opened and checked by our partner watchmakers: movement verification, examination of the dial, hands and case. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Omega calibre 471?
Omega's first full-rotor automatic movement, introduced in 1954-1955: an oscillating weight that turns through 360 degrees and winds in both directions, whereas the earlier "bumper" movements hit a stop at each half-turn. Designed and manufactured in Biel, at 19,800 vibrations per hour, with a distinctive copper-colored finish, it formed the foundation of Omega's entire 470-490-500 family of automatic movements in the late 1950s and powered, among others, the Seamaster XVI of the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956.

What does SC mean in the reference?
Central seconds: this is how Omega distinguished, in the 1950s, its references with a central seconds hand from those with sub-seconds. The 2802 exists in steel, gold and, as here, gold-plated; the numbers that follow designate the case variant.

Is the dial original?
Yes, and it has never been restored: its speckled patina developed over time on the silvered surface, even across the entire dial, and no dial ever ages the same way twice. The applied golden hour markers, the 12 and the dauphine hands are also original; only the acrylic Crystal has been replaced.

Has the movement been serviced?
Yes, by our partner watchmakers: complete disassembly, cleaning, oiling and regulation of calibre 471. It is guaranteed for one year. A vintage watch is not guaranteed water-resistant.

Is this piece suitable for a slim or larger wrist?
With a 33.5mm diameter, 41mm Lug-to-lug and 11mm thickness, it suits wrists of approximately 15 to 19cm — a guideline, never a rule: everyone wears what they like. Its thick lugs give it the presence on the wrist of a larger watch. The Lug width measures 18mm, making it easy to change the strap.
